Ruse has no account. There is no email address, no password and nothing to log into — so deleting your data works differently here than in most apps, and in most cases it is simpler.
Nearly everything Ruse knows about you is on your phone, not on our servers. Your personas, the photos you attached, the audio clips you recorded, the context you wrote and your call history are stored on the device and are never sent to us.
What we hold on our servers is a short list:
- a device registration, so a scheduled call can ring while your phone is locked
- any calls you currently have scheduled
- your daily usage counters, which enforce plan limits
- your subscription record, if you have subscribed
Three ways to delete, from simplest to most thorough
1. Delete the app
This erases everything stored on your device, permanently and immediately. For most people it is enough on its own — what remains on our servers cannot identify you by name, and it expires by itself on the schedule below.
Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Cancel that in the App Store or Google Play.
2. In the app — Settings ▸ Privacy ▸ Delete my data
The fastest and most complete route, and the one we recommend if you still have Ruse installed. It works immediately, needs no email address, and requires nothing from you but a confirmation. Use this if you can.
3. This page — if you have already uninstalled
Use the form below. Because there is no account to sign into, we need one piece of information to find your records. See What we need from you.
Before you delete — three things to know
Deleting your data cancels any call you have scheduled. If you have a call or an insistence pattern armed for later, it will not ring. The app tells you how many are pending before it proceeds; the form on this page cannot, so check first if this matters to you.
Deleting your data does not cancel your subscription, and does not refund it. If you want both, cancel in the store first, then delete.
It cannot be undone. We cannot restore deleted records, and we cannot recover anything that was on your phone.
What we delete
| What | Result |
|---|---|
| Device registration and push token | Removed. Scheduled calls can no longer ring while the app is closed |
| Scheduled calls and insistence patterns | Cancelled and removed |
| Usage counters | Removed |
| Your anonymous identifier (Ruse ID) | Removed. A new one is created if you use Ruse again |
| Analytics and diagnostic events | Deletion requested from our analytics and error-reporting providers |
| Link between your subscription and your Ruse ID | Removed |
What we keep, and why
Your subscription record, while a subscription is active. It is the proof that you paid, and deleting it would revoke access you are entitled to. Cancel the subscription in the store first if you want it gone.
Purchase records, for as long as tax and accounting law requires — typically seven years. We and the app stores are both required to retain these.
Entries in our generated-audio cache. When you generate a spoken clip, the result is cached by the combination of voice, text and style so the same phrase is not generated twice. That cache is not linked to you and there is no way to trace an entry back to a single person, so we cannot selectively remove yours. Entries expire twelve months after they were last used.
Anything already anonymised or aggregated so that it can no longer be connected to you.
Data that expires on its own
Even if you do nothing, server-side data does not sit indefinitely:
| Data | Deleted after |
|---|---|
| Scheduled calls | 30 days after the call fires or is cancelled |
| Server request logs | 30 days |
| Usage counter records | 90 days |
| Crash, error and performance events | 90 days |
| Analytics data | 14 months |
| Generated-audio cache entries | 12 months from last use |
| Device registration and push token | 12 months after the last registration |
What we need from you
Submit either of these. Both identify your records; you do not need both.
Your Ruse ID — the most precise. Open Ruse and go to Settings ▸ About, then copy it. If you still have the app installed, use route 2 above instead; it is faster.
Your store order number — use this if you have already uninstalled. It appears on the receipt the store emailed you when you subscribed. On Google Play it begins with GPA.; on the App Store it appears on your emailed receipt as the Order ID. This only works if you subscribed; free users leave almost no server-side trace, and deleting the app is the complete deletion for them.
An email address, so we can confirm the request and tell you when it is done. We use this address only to process and confirm your request, and delete it once the request is closed. It is never added to a mailing list and never linked to your Ruse data.
How to submit
Complete the form on this page, or email info@tryruse.com with the subject line Delete my data, including your Ruse ID or order number.
We confirm receipt within a few days and complete deletion within 30 days, usually much sooner. If we cannot match the information you gave us to any record, we will tell you — we will not guess, and we will not ask you for further personal information in order to search harder.
Request deletion
We use the address you give us only to confirm this request and tell you when it is done, and we delete it once the request is closed. It is never added to a mailing list and never linked to your Ruse data.
If you are not sure
If you simply want Ruse to stop collecting analytics and diagnostics, you do not need to delete anything. Open Settings ▸ Privacy in the app and turn it off. Every feature keeps working.
If you want to know what we collect and why before deciding, read the Privacy Policy.
